Pavers (reminiscent of Philadelphia's colonial history) leave 16th street open to traffic, while making the area more pedestrian friendly. Cross-cutting views were preserved, and natural daily use was promoted through a variety of direct and meandering paths. The space is activated into the nighttime by a variety of aesthetically pleasing fixtures.

We noted five main aspects to consider in a site plan; we assessed each of these focus areas in our analysis throughout the semester to compile a comprehensive site plan and design.

Beyond our broad site plans, we considered additional recommendations to nurture sociability and to create an active and interesting space.
LOVE PARK REDESIGN
Our redesign of the iconic LOVE Park in Philadelphia, PA closely aligned with district area plan goals of creating safe environments that are active throughout the day and into the night, reclaiming the excess vehicular realm as pedestrian space, and creating a centralized bike station and bikeway (including high-capacity bike parking).
The proposed site plan features mobile seating to impact socialization and park interaction, integrated green space, cafes to reclaim excess vehicular space, bike share stations, fountains, and energizing light fixtures. Download full text below.
